A Sky Full of Solidarity: Global Kite Event for Palestine – May 25th

On May 25th, skies around the world were filled with kites of resistance, remembrance, and hope. From city parks to open fields, communities in over 20 countries came together to fly kites in solidarity with the people of Palestine. It was more than just a kite-flying event — it was a powerful, peaceful act of unity and remembrance for the thousands of lives lost in Gaza and beyond.

At Kites4Palestine, we were honoured to help coordinate this historic moment. With each kite launched into the sky, participants sent a clear message: the world is watching, and we have not forgotten.

Why Kites?

Kites have become a symbol of Palestinian resilience — flown high above the rubble by children who refuse to let occupation ground their spirits. By using kites, we not only honour that legacy, but also allow people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in a beautiful, symbolic act of protest.

Each kite that flew on May 25th told a story. Many carried short messages like “Free Palestine,” “Ceasefire Now,” or simply bore the colours of the Palestinian flag. Some were flown in memory of children whose lives were tragically cut short. Others were flown with joy — a celebration of culture, unity, and global compassion.

Global Participation

The response was overwhelming. Communities in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Lebanon, France, Greece and more held their own kite events. Social media was filled with uplifting images of families, activists, and children all taking part — many of them using kites from Kites4Palestine, knowing that every purchase helped support aid efforts in Palestine.

This event wasn’t just about raising awareness — it was about doing something. Proceeds from kite sales went directly towards the new Mental Health Programs we are running in Palestine and to facilitate all the toys to be sent over. For every kite sold, one was donated to a child in Gaza. And perhaps most importantly, it gave people around the world a peaceful, creative way to show they care.

Thank You

To everyone who flew a kite, helped organise an event, or simply shared a post — thank you. You helped turn a simple childhood toy into a symbol of resistance and remembrance.

Together, we rise. Together, we remember. Together, we fly.
